ABOUT CHRIS JONES

I study the behaviour of multinational firms and their impact on the world economy. My research is cross-disciplinary, cutting across International Business, Public Economics, and International taxation. I publish primarily in IB journals, and my work engages with core questions about the role of tax havens, institutions, location choice, corporate reputation and business ethics.I am a trained economist, and the main methodological approach I use is applied econometrics using large-scale firm-level data. I have led two major projects funded by the Leverhulme Trust (£121k and £165k). The first explored the institutional drivers of tax haven use by emerging market MNEs. The second investigates how tax haven use shapes patterns of industrial concentration. Together, these projects form part of a broader agenda to understand how MNEs navigate and reshape institutional environments in the global economy. If you are interested in doing a PhD please check out my Google Scholar Profile and get in contact with me via email (c•••••••@aston.ac.uk).I have supervised 5 students to completion and they are all working in UK HE. My work has been published in top-tier journals including Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, Journal of International Management, British Journal of Management, World Development, Journal of Business Research, International Business Review, International Journal of Management Reviews, Management International Review, Critical Perspectives in International Business, The Journal of Travel Research and Transnational Corporations. I have also contributed public commentary through The Conversation, and my research has received national and international recognition, including best paper awards at the AoM, AIB, and the Journal of World Business. From 20••••22, I served as Head of the Economics, Finance and Entrepreneurship Department at Aston Business School. Under my leadership, in 2022, the department ranked 15th in the Guardian League Table rankings and in 2021 it ranked 101-125th (in conjunction with Business and Management) in the Times Higher World University Rankings. I hold a Master\'s in HE, am a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, and have won multiple teaching awards, including the Economics Network\'s national student-nominated award. I have published pedagogical research in Studies in Higher Education and contributed to curriculum design at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I am currently on the Editorial Board of The Economic Review, a leading A-level Economics magazine.
