About Chris Johnson

Executive at Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System), a fully integrated healthcare delivery system with annual net revenue of approximately $11+ billion. It is the largest healthcare system in North Carolina and the second largest public, not for profit, system in the United States. Employed at Atrium Health for the past 20 years and in my current role serve as Vice President, Revenue Cycle Management. Responsible for the Unified Business Office and Revenue Cycle operational oversight for facilities managed, but not owned, by Atrium Health. In 2015, selected to lead the development of the Unified Business Office as part of the HealthCare System’s migration to an Epic Revenue Cycle platform. The Unified Business Office combines all patient facing financial interactions for both hospital and professional accounts into a single patient interaction with the HealthCare System. Additionally, management, selection and payment of Vendors selected to support the Revenue Cycle operations of Atrium Health are maintained within the Unified Business Office. In 2014 selected to develop and Chair the Vendor Selection Committee for the System’s Revenue Cycle Operations. This project marked the first time the System consolidated vendor selection for both owned and managed/leased facilities into a single vendor selection process. Under this model the System achieved a 12 percent reduction in annual vendor expense in addition to engaging new and emerging vendor lines of business which increased bottom line cash to the System of more than $10 million. Professional affiliations include several leadership positions within the North Carolina HFMA Chapter including Chapter President (20••••02). I\'ve also served National HFMA as a Regional Executive for Region IV, member of the Board of Examiners, Chair of the Board of Examiners, member of the National Advisory Counsel and member of the Chapter Advancement Team. In 2017 received the Frederick C. Morgan award, National HFMA’s highest service award. Other Board positions include the Curriculum Advisory Board for the Healthcare Management Program for both St. Augustine College and Ashford University. Designated fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA) and a Certified Healthcare Professional from HFMA. Graduated with honors from Montreat College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Business Administration.Currently reside in in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, is married and enjoys reading, traveling and camping.
