About Chris Johnson

I have built over a thousand residential units in the past 25 years and I still love the challenge to build the next one better. Building science gives me the opportunity to be the construction geek I was born to be. I get to work with the best construction companies in the Midwest verifying ENERGY STAR and LEED projects, which makes my work challenging and rewarding. My favorite builders to work with, never say \"This is the way we have always done it.\" With changing IECC Codes many construction companies find it hard to meet performance standards needed today. I have the field experience with years on a construction site, along with the building science side to meet the new standards. I was once told \"you can move one house a thousand miles or a thousand homes a mile.\" I do like to work on Passive and Net Zero Homes but to me that\'s the one house. Helping move market based homes to meet the 2015 IECC Code is the challenge.

   My position with Johnson Environmental encompasses a broad spectrum of the construction process and sometimes deconstruction. First off, we verify for new construction codes 2012 / 2015 IECC, which is part of the International Residential Code, along with ENERGY STAR and LEED. Pretty much a commissioning process for apartments and homes. We use the \"Building as a System\" approach form the first blue print meeting to the final test out. I conduct inspections from the foundation insulation to the above grade wall insulation. Decisions during construction are made from the computer modeling of the building, we \"build\" the building in program that lets us changes to insulation values and HVAC. Long and short. you will have a heating and cooling cost figured out before you move in.The second part covers existing buildings from making energy saving improvements to building forensics after failures occur. I specialize in indoor moisture problems, the why is mold here. Many costumer calls that I handle are also \"why does my home cost so much to heat\". We also do the traditional \"Home Inspection\" for title exchange. Johnson Environmental brings over 50 years experience in residential and light construction to the table and handles all the on site verifications.
