ABOUT CHRIS GREEN

Chris Green serves as the Director of Economic Development for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Since its creation in 1931, the Board serves as the governing and management authority for Georgia’s 26 public higher education institutions including four research universities, four comprehensive universities, nine state universities and nine state colleges. With over students and more than faculty and staff, the University System of Georgia is one of the largest university systems in the country and a critical component of Georgia’s economic development success. As the Director of Economic Development, Chris is focused on strengthening partnerships between public higher education and Georgia-based businesses to address workforce and talent needs throughout the state. In addition to representing USG with the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) and other key stakeholders to support business recruitment, he is also responsible for fostering employer and university partnerships to develop professional learning, academic curriculum, experiential learning, and innovation-driven research opportunities for all USG institutions. Prior to joining USG, Chris served as the Director of External Affairs for the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC), a state agency that administers more than 20 student financial aid programs, including the HOPE Scholarship. In this role, he was responsible for building positive relationships to advance GSFC’s mission to promote and increase access to postsecondary education for Georgians. Chris began his career in public service at the Georgia Department of Agriculture where he served as Deputy Policy Director and Special Assistant to the Commissioner of Agriculture, Gary W. Black. A native of Athens, Georgia, Chris attended Clarke County schools before earning a BA in History and an MPA from the University of Georgia. He also holds a Public Manager Certificate from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Some of his professional affiliations include the Georgia Economic Developers Association (GEDA), the University Economic Developers Association (UEDA), and the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). In his spare time, Chris is an active member of Buckhead Church and belongs to several historical organizations that support lifelong learning.
