ABOUT CHRIS CARTEN

Direct mail is one of the most powerful marketing channels available—but it’s also one of the most operationally complex.Over the past 15+ years, I’ve worked across nearly every layer of the direct mail industry: from print production floors and finishing equipment to mail data processing, postal logistics, USPS compliance, and large-scale mail operations. That full-stack experience allows me to see problems others miss.I’ve managed production teams, built targeted mailing lists, prepared postal documentation, coordinated drop shipments, and optimized campaigns to reduce postage costs while maintaining USPS compliance. Along the way, I developed a deep understanding of how small operational errors in mail workflows can cascade into costly delays, rework, or postage issues.Today I focus on solving those problems. As the founder of Lightning Presort Services, I help direct mail production facilities and marketing agencies:• Reduce operational friction in mail workflows• Ensure USPS compliance and presort accuracy• Improve mail logistics and documentation• Automate repetitive postal processes• Take advantage of USPS promotions and postal incentivesMuch of my work involves building practical automation solutions that sit on top of existing systems—often using tools like AccuZIP scripting and workflow triggers—to reduce manual repetition and prevent common mailing errors before they happen. The goal isn’t to replace existing systems. It’s to make them work better. My career started on the production floor operating finishing equipment and has evolved into designing systems that help mail operations run faster, cleaner, and with fewer surprises. That perspective—from the floor to postal strategy—is what shapes how I approach every project. If you work in direct mail operations, marketing logistics, or postal affairs and are interested in improving workflow efficiency, reducing postal issues, or exploring smarter automation in your mailing process, feel free to connect.
