If you’ve ever purchased a pair of jeans from a Gap, Inc. brand, you probably didn’t realize that an army of product managers, software engineers, and program managers were behind the journey those jeans took to reach your shopping bag—fueled by a complex supply chain and the technology that supports it.As a senior director of software engineering at Gap, Inc, I’ve been privileged to lead the global engineering organizations and teams that help make that journey possible—driving large-scale enterprise-wide solutions and software implementations that enable global sourcing, manufacturing, and distribution lifecycle that goes unnoticed if we’re doing our job right.Examples of our work include- integrating and building out distribution center platforms (e.g, WMS, WES, MHE)- supporting international store expansions- modernizing legacy PO, sourcing, and manufacturing systems- transforming supply chain visibility- facilitating global inventory strategy and fulfillment- integrating packaged solutions in the enterprise- implementing enterprise lease management systems- migrating merchandise costing systems from on-prem to SaaSWith that said, we only make it look easy. Our business partners and stakeholders play a core role to our success, working closely with us to help define requirements and navigate roadblocks that drive a successful solution.As a leader, much of my team building philosophy has drawn on my love for skiing and mountain biking—a skill that I regularly draw on in business when the only way around is through. I also work hard to mentor and create leaders who can manage teams through clear, direct communication, with decision-making autonomy and clear expectation setting for their teams.
