Worked as an independent short-term consultant specialising in needs assessments and identification, preparation and appraisal, resource mobilisation and inception, technical backstopping and capacity development, and evaluation of programmes and projects focusing on:(i) climate-smart agriculture (e.g. agro-forestry, conservation agriculture, soil and water conservation, integrated soil fertility and plant nutrient management, water harvesting, on-farm water management and post-harvest management);(ii) resilience (e.g. disaster preparedness, rural livelihood recovery and rehabilitation, improved food and nutrition security and disaster risk reduction); and community-based land use planning, adaptive research and participatory agricultural extension. Most of these assignments have been as an individual or as Team Leader of multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and multi-national teams of technical specialists.Other capacity development experience includes the development of national policies and strategies and design and backstopping of training programmes and preparation of field manuals and training materials on conservation agriculture, community-based water management, agricultural mechanisation and adaptive research and participatory learning (e.g. “farmer field school\" methodologies).Assignment locations: Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Myanmar, Philippines, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, South Asia Regional and Syria Sub-Regional; and home/FAO office-based in the UK, Rome, Bangkok, Cairo and Amman.
