Current company Wellman & Zuck Constructors
Construction · 11 employees · Founded 1977 · Bellingham, Washington, United States
For nearly five decades, Wellman & Zuck has played a meaningful role in shaping the built environment of Bellingham and the greater Northwest Washington region. Founded in 1977, the company began as a local general contractor rooted in the vision and leadership of the Wellman and Zuck families. Over the years, it steadily grew; expanding from small commercial work into a diverse portfolio that includes remote construction, multi-family housing, waterfront developments, civic buildings, medical facilities and specialty commercial projects. Some of its most recognizable work can be seen across the San Juan Islands and Bellingham, from waterfront landmarks like Hotel Bellwether and the Squalicum Boathouse in Bellingham, to Spring Street Landing and Downriggers restaurant in Friday Harbor. Our generations of leadership have also focused on community-centered projects such as fire stations, university projects cultural spaces, and affordable housing communities. In 2021, the company entered a new chapter with the formation of Wellman & Zuck Constructors, LLC. Leadership transitioned to Chris Abbey, who now serves as President and leads the company’s ongoing operations, continuing the legacy established by the founders while guiding the firm into its next phase. The company has built a strong reputation for delivering complex, remote, and island-based projects. Notable work includes the White Salmon Day Lodge, Raven Hut Day Lodge, and the MBSA Power Generation Building at Mount Baker Ski Area, along with significant island projects such as the San Juan Islands Museum of Art and Kidder Way Affordable Housing. These projects reflect the company’s long-standing ability to successfully manage construction in challenging and logistically demanding environments. Today, Wellman & Zuck remains a locally rooted contractor with a long track record of building projects that contribute to the character and functionality of the communities it serves.
