t••••••••@starfishschools.co.ukI have always worn pink. For me, it’s more than a colour, it’s a reminder to lead with compassion, courage, and presence. My journey has been shaped by stories, especially Loren Eiseley’s Starfish Story. The idea that one small act can change a life has stayed with me in every corridor conversation, every gate duty, every quiet moment with a student who needed to be seen. We may not be able to change everything, but for the ones we reach, it can mean everything. I know this because I’ve lived it. Standing on school gates at 8:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m, I’ve learned that presence matters more than policy. That the work which can’t be measured, the noticing, the listening, the quiet “I see you”, is the work that changes lives. That’s why I call my colleagues there The Real Gatekeepers. They safeguard not just through paperwork, but through trust, humanity, and connection. With over a decade of experience in pastoral care, safeguarding, and inclusive education, I’ve had the privilege of serving in roles that have taken me from Cantell School, where I first discovered restorative practice and led a mediation team, to Kings’ School Winchester, where I worked with families, local primaries, and multi-agency partners as Deputy DSL and Attendance Manager. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I helped lead the school’s operational response, writing policy, managing contact tracing, and working closely with Public Health England to keep communities safe. More recently, I’ve served as Head of Year, Student Safeguarding Manager, and now as Alternative Provision Lead, designing a bespoke curriculum for learners disengaged from mainstream education. From functional skills to animal care, my aim is to create pathways of belonging and achievement that meet students where they are. Beyond school walls, I also served as Safeguarding Trustee for No Limits South, a role that allowed me to champion young people at a community level. I share these reflections on LinkedIn because I’ve found here what I value most in education: connection, conversation, camaraderie. This space has helped me rediscover my voice, and I use it to advocate for a more equitable, inclusive, and wholehearted education system. One rooted not in sameness, but in belonging. Always in pink, always led by hope, I am here to tell our Starfish stories and to walk alongside others who believe, as I do, that kindness is power and presence is leadership. We can build the kind of education system where everyone feels seen, supported, and able to rise.
