As fencing instructor, I taught children from ages 4 to 14 fencing, along with a range of other sports and activities. I enjoyed cultivating a fun and educational environment for them to learn not only the sports and team building exercises we taught them, but also allowing them to build other skills such as making new friends and working in groups. I gained leadership skills from creating my own session plans, with warm-up, introductory exercises, main session, and warm down, varying these depending on age group and ability of the children, and delivering the sessions by myself as the only trained fencer on the camp. I also developed teamwork skills by collaborating with my colleagues on ideas for my sessions, and helping out with other sessions when necessary, such as other sports, capture the flag, quizzes, and escape rooms, in order to make the sessions fun and inventive. My communication skills flourished by speaking to people of a range of ages, from young children, to teenagers, to my colleagues. I believe I also displayed emotional intelligence and patience when dealing with difficult situations that occured.
