About Chittaranjan Tripathy

I have a strong background and experience in data science, predictive and causal modeling, and machine learning. I apply the same at my work at Walmart Labs. Previously, I worked at Amazon, Seattle as a Research Scientist for ~5 years and worked on many interesting problems and delivered cutting-edge solutions.Previously, I worked as a visiting faculty member in the Duke Computer Science Department, and also work as a research associate in the same department. I obtained my doctorate degree in Computer Science from Duke University. My doctoral research focused on developing efficient and robust algorithms for analysis of data from various experiments, information extraction and modeling with applications to determining the three-dimensional structural coordinates and other structural parameters of proteins. My research drew on tools and techniques from the Biophysics of Proteins, Algebraic and Combinatorial Geometry, Graph Theory, Combinatorial Optimization, Machine Learning and Robotics. It aimed at developing algorithms to extract information from sparse data, and use the knowledge mined from the big data involving protein structures, experimental measurements, available to the scientific community, to infer protein structural parameters. My work has been end-to-end, pragmatic, and result oriented. I have developed several algorithms for data analysis to extract relevant information, mapping that to the high-dimensional protein structure space, and determining protein structural coordinates and other structural parameters. These algorithms have been implemented in the open-source software packages RDC-ANALYTIC/RDC-PANDA and POOL, written in Java, which have been downloaded by many research laboratories and universities from different parts of the world. My work has been featured as the **Cover Story** of the February 2012 issue of the Journal PROTEINS.
