ABOUT CHIPO DENDERE

The study of democracy is a complex endeavor and it is even more so when looking at the survival of hybrid political systems in the developing world. I find it enjoyable to unpack the puzzles that make democracy so interesting and yet a nearly impossible goal for most countries. I also love teaching; my experiences as a young 18 year old leaving home for the first time to attend college in the U.S. have convinced me that professors play an integral role in the development of young minds and young passions. A healthy classroom environment is beneficial to both the student and the teacher. Many of my great thoughts :) come to me when I am in the classroom. Last year I taught a class to a group of young Zimbabweans on their way to some of the top universities around the world; it was there that I began to think more intentionally about the role Africa in the global economy. When I asked my students what Zimbabwe meant to them, one Chinese-Zimbabwean (yes they are there!)student responded,\"Economic growth, prosperity, space, so much space\" and a Rwandese-Zimbabwean said,\"PEACE\".
