About Chinmoy Podder

Innovation-driven researcher and an interdisciplinary engineer with a unique multi-scale manufacturing experience in micro/nanofabrication and solvent-free Li-ion batteries. Successfully developed novel manufacturing techniques in both semiconductor manufacturing and dry battery space through published articles and patents. Research Experiences- Obtained 5 years of micro/nanofabrication experience in an academic lab cleanroom and investigated light matter interaction at nanoparticle surface and solution processed substrate interfaces - Invented a mask-free and organic additives-free ultrafast laser-based direct printing technique for nanoscale 3D metals (for 3D integration and interconnects manufacturing) and contributed to the ongoing scaling up of the system - Optimized the novel printing process for different material systems (metal and quantum dot ink)- Developed an in-situ feedback control system for monitoring transients of nanoscale sintering in solution processed chamber during ultrafast laser processing of metal nanoparticles - Research output resulted in initiation of Partnerships for Innovation - Technology Translation (PFI-TT) NSF project “Development and Commercialization of a Microscale Three-Dimensional (3D) Printer for Multi materials” - Obtained 4+ years of dry electrode manufacturing experience through extensive exposure to dry powder mixing, electrostatic deposition and electrode calendering - Fabricated/evaluated pouch size electrodes for dry printing of Li-ion batteries and built lab-scale roll-to roll setup for demonstration of scaled up manufacturing solutions - Invented a method for manufacturing of electrodes for batteries and other energy devices using dry and fine powders Worked on multiple projects funded by: NSF, NSF CAREER, NSF SBIR, DOE, USABC LLC Technical Skills: Cleanroom FAB, Photolithography, Thin Film Deposition (E-Beam Evaporator and Sputter), Plasma Etching, Metal Nanoparticle Synthesis, Laser Operation and Materials Processing (Femtosecond-IR, Nanosecond-UV/IR, Continuous-Wave), Dry Mixing of Powders, Powder Deposition and Calendering for dry battery electrodes, Design of Experiments Software: LabView, MATLAB, COMSOL, SOLIDWORKS, ImageJ, JMP, Origin, Microsoft Office Programs Metrology: Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), RAMAN Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Vis Spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Stylus Profilometer, Dry Powder Characterization (tap density, angle of repose)
