About Chinmay Deval

Passionate water resources professional with a strong background and experience in geospatial technology and environmental resources management. In my new role at NASA SERVIR science coordination office, I lead the water security service area where we are on a mission to help strengthen the capacity of SERVIR hubs to connect the most innovative earth observation-based data and methods to challenges related to water security. Before joining SERVIR, I was a geospatial data analyst at FM Global, where my focus was on natural hazards related geospatial data processing, QA/QC, as well as engineering and ETL tasks to provide comprehensive and practical solutions to business challenges. I was also a research fellow at the University of Idaho. There my focus within the group was to improve the understanding of the implications of various land management strategies on water quality with process based models and geospatial datasets. Here, I also built data-driven tools to inform stakeholders’ strategies to address climate risks and support their environmental management-related decision-making. Previously, I was a Utrecht Excellence Scholar at the Utrecht University in the Netherlands. There I used the next generation global hydrology and water resources model along with various remote sensing products to derive water management insights. Committed to addressing real-world challenges, I enjoy leveraging my domain expertise to help organizations scale their analytics and dissemination of data insights and further strengthen their product offerings to their stakeholders via capacity building. Outside of work, I thrive in competitive sports and find solace in occasional hikes in the woods.
