ABOUT CHINMAY GHERDE

Greetings, my name is Chinmay Gherde, and I\'m currently pursuing my MS in Financial Engineering at University of Southern California. My undergraduate major was Mechanical Engineering, wait WHAT? How did I go from Mechanical to Financial Engineering?Well, 6 months into my Mechanical Engineering journey, I knew it wasn\'t the industry that I was seeing myself few years down the road. I decided to keep a decent GPA, and use the time for learning new things. Thus began my exploration journey!If there was one thing that I wanted to get good at, it was the art of SELLING! So I enrolled myself in avenues where I could experiment verbally and in turn, get good with communication and persuasion.Eventually my love for Statistics caught up again sometime during my second year, and I started combining it with computation. This slowly transitioned into Data Science and eventually, Machine Learning. Being a habitual investor since my freshman year, I began playing around with financial market datasets, trying to predict stock prices, identifying trends, building credit risk models, etc. As my passion for it started blooming slowly, networking with people that were doing the kind of work that I wanted to, really cemented my decision to pursue education in the quantitative aspect of financial markets.And here I AM! At University of Southern California pursuing my MS in Financial Engineering.
