About Chinedu O.
After breaking the family computer a few times in my childhood in the early 90s, I quickly learned that gaining skills with technology could be just as dangerous as it was enjoyable. But, every little mistake taught me something not to do, and accumulated to the foundation of knowledge that allowed me to flourish within the Information Technology Industry. In my first IT job as a student consultant (obtained by emailing pictures of computer repair projects along with my resume), I absorbed the organizational structure of UofI, its many departments, and the variety of differences in policies, tools, and needs of different units on campus. Following a brief stint supporting a fabrication lab and getting exposure to rapid prototyping processes and community engagement, my transition to primarily supporting a single department (alongside one additional department by proximity) granted a dive deep into the vast and varying biome of supporting students, faculty, or staff. These customers are placed in offices, classrooms, or research labs. They are located in newly renovated buildings (in a renovation project that I was lucky enough to be a part of for technology decision making), or in farmhouses south of campus. A typical day could involve troubleshooting issues at a remote research sites 2 hours outside town, or flying out of state to a research unit in a dedicated building on a military base. My next career phase brings me into the land of security and vulnerability management. It was an unexpected path, but I have gained so many tools and learned about many varying applications and services by connecting to different servers within my banking org. In confirming vulnerabilities, identifying solutions, and remediating vulnerabilities, the entire process surprisingly mentally boils down to a game of whack-a-mole, that translates to an enjoyable experience for me.Upcoming career phases could take me deeper into the work of cybersecurity, deeper into SEIM, and towards CISM or CISA, or CISSP. I\'m confident those paths would bring me joy. I\'m currently training for Salesforce certification, which would open up many more possibilities and career path branches. My dream career path leads towards supporting products and services for any of the top cloud infrastructure providers as a Cloud Engineer, allowing me to have a greater positive technological impact in empowering organizations and individuals, which would bring me endless satisfaction and joy!
