ABOUT IZU NWACHUKWU

Dr Nwachukwu is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary, Canada. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Imo State University, Nigeria. He has attained extensive international education and practice experience with multiple Fellowships in Medicine and Psychiatry from institutions across the UK, Ireland, USA, and Canada. He obtained the prestigious Chartered Director (C.Dir) designation from The Directors College (DeGroote School of Business) at McMaster University in 2023, and an M.Sc. in Healthcare Management from the Institute of Leadership at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2012. Dr Nwachukwu currently sits on two Governance Boards and has held several executive level positions in medical leadership and clinical governance across different countries. He currently serves as the Alberta Health Services’ Calgary Zone Clinical Section Chief for Community Mental Health for the past several years and also holds the position of Medical Director at the Alberta International Medical Graduates (AIMG) Program. He holds certifications in Medical Education with special interest in education policy and curriculum development. He is well published with several papers in international peer reviewed journals. Dr Nwachukwu is passionate about Health Advocacy, especially with regard to equity, psychosocial determinants of health and wellness, as well as cultural sensitivity in clinical practice. He is the Founder and President of Izu Nwachukwu Foundation, dedicated to ensuring that children from marginalized communities can access quality education and better opportunities. He is also a Knight of the Order of St Christopher.
