About Chiaki Sekiguchi Bems

TEACHING PHILOSOPHYDrawing on my background in the Humanities and liberal arts, I design interdisciplinary courses that encourage students to ask critical questions, engage deeply with material, and become activists of their own learning—pursuing their interests and discovering personalized pathways to achieve their learning goals. My goal is to foster a collaborative learning community where collective exploration and individual contributions thrive. Through inquiry-based discussions, student-moderated debates, student-led community events, and open classes, I aim to empower students with a critical and creative mindset and the confidence to engage autonomously with the world.COURSES \"AI Ethics: Humans & Machines\": Combines Computer Science, Social Sciences, and Humanities. With the dynamic course structure of core AI Ethics learning and individual or group projects in two tracks-Humanities and Tech tracks-we aim to provide meaningful AI education that will help us shape responsible technology development and mindful co-living with AI. The course ends with a community AI film event at a local theater. 2.\"Diversity in the United States/US History\":Articulated in SUNY, Buffalo\'s \"Diversity in the US Requirement,\" the course aims to foster students\' cultural competence - a fundamental skill to thrive in the diverse society of the United States. Haiku visualization () is used as a reflective process learning method that activates both critical and creative thinking about America. 3.\"The Firm / The Essay Program\":Teaches written, spoken, and visualized essay communication skills on relevant social issues. It aims to foster students\' critical thinking and argumentative writing.
