Advocate for Preventing Gun Violence @Everytown For Gun Safety
Cheryl Stumbo was critically wounded when a man shot her and her co-workers, killing one. She hopes greater visibility of survivors and victims of gun violence will accelerate social and political change. She refuses to fade into the background. She is not going to let us all move on, day after day, shooting after shooting. She has had to face this tragedy and adapt her life to what’s happened. Her country, her state, her city—they have to do the same thing. It’s time. It’s time to face this ugly, hurtful, painful, horrible epidemic of gun violence and do something about it. It’s time to be human again.Public Speaking and Community Organizing• Seven year spent leveraging tragic personal experience as survivor of gun violence into positive communications, advocacy, public speaking, and media spokesmanship• TEDxSeattle 2013 speaker (‘Our Deadly Little Secret’), featured speaker at Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility fundraising kick-off luncheon (helped raised almost $1million in one day)• Adept media spokesperson, translating personal stories to the need for social change and political action (The Seattle Times (personal profile, Special to the Times Op-Ed), KING5 TV, KIRO TV and Radio, KUOW/NPR radio, MSNBC, CNN)
