ABOUT CHERYL LYDON ED. D.

I love the moment when a teacher is surprised by students engaged in \"figuring it out\" rather than \"learning about\". I see these moments as a professional learning provider that engages teachers as learners, exploring phenomena, arguing from evidence, and applying this personal experience to improve practices for their students. As a recognized leader in science education in Washington state, I use my eclectic background to help shift teaching practices so that students furthest from educational justice are well served. Experience in teaching, staff management, professional development, career connected learning/CTE, grant & budget management and project management, most recently in climate science education, inform the work I do with educational leaders and teachers. My personal and professional experiences have taught me the following about myself: I can engage a roomful of students in asking and answering questions about interesting phenomena- I use student questions about interesting phenomena or puzzling problems to drive engagement- I ensure each student\'s questions or ideas are made public in a safe and supportive learning environment- I provide experiences that challenge initial thinking and provide collaborative ways to come to new understandings of big ideas I can engage adults in the education system in questioning practices that privilege some students over others - I love to support teachers to take a strong equity stance and push their own thinking about teaching practice - I work to align frameworks like CCSS, NGSS, and UDL to best support engaged learning - I partner with leaders from multiple districts to ensure we lead from a racial equity stance I can lead or serve as a collaboration partner on large scale projects - I can diagnose a need and gather effective groups to meet that need - I can develop teams - I am continuously learning how to partner with students, families & community members as co-leads or even as a follower of their leadership I am a lifelong learner striving to be a better champion for students furthest from educational justice - I am constantly learning for and with the teachers I serve - I am constantly learning from colleagues, community partners, students & families - I love learning from the other-than-human beings that share our planet Professional Skills Teacher | Professional Development | Teacher Leadership | Curriculum & Assessment | Content Area Team Leadership | Teacher & Principal Evaluation | Teacher Coaching | Program Leadership & Management | Grant & Budget Management |
