ABOUT CHERYL JONES
Cheryl Jones is Director and one of the founding members of Grand Union, an arts organisation located in Digbeth, Birmingham. Made up of a group of artists, curators, ecologists, and activists, Grand Union has housed a gallery and artists’ studios at Minerva Works for over a decade, and regularly works with a range of community groups and partners. Together they produce artworks, exhibitions, and creative projects that connect our past and present with our future. Cheryl is now leading Grand Union through a major capital project that will see the transformation of Junction Works, a beautiful mid-nineteenth century, Grade II listed canal building in Digbeth, into a vibrant community hub and facility for the presentation and production of contemporary art. It will include a community cafe, garden and gallery space for regular arts and event programmes, alongside a mix of affordable and commercial workspaces for visual arts and other creative businesses. Cheryl has previously been a collaborator to instigate several initiatives such as Digbeth First Friday, and until recently was part of West Midlands Combined Authority Cultural Leadership Board, an advisory board established to help WMCA build an innovative and entrepreneurial cultural sector, with a key focus on Cultural Infrastructure.
