My career started in the Civil Service and whilst many people may think that you can’t make the transition from Public to Private Sector – think again. My time in the Civil Service gave me great exposure to the business challenges that many organisations face today, and also gave me some of the best structured training and development, and opportunities to work across multiple disciplines that I have seen in my career. HR was never really on my radar as I wasn’t really sure what \'they\' did and why we needed \'them\'. Then I was asked to set up a HR department from scratch and that is when my eyes were opened. It was at this point I got my passion for HR. I knew that HR could work side by side/hand in hand with our Business leaders to drive growth, grow our own talent and really contribute to the business agenda. All businesses are really about the people and if you get this right it can be the difference between success and failure.
