ABOUT STEVEN DONG
My passion lies in the field of Materials Science and Engineering, particularly in the study of chemical structures and their relationship to material properties. To further prepare for my future career, I pursued Chemical Engineering and Industrial Biological Engineering as my majors at Dalian University of Technology. Through organic, physical, and analytical chemistry experiments, I gained a deep understanding of the preparation, measurement, and analysis of chemical compounds. In my sophomore year, I participated in a research project on mixed matrix membranes, which aimed to improve the separation efficiency of carbon dioxide by doping two-dimensional nanomaterials in the polymer film. In this project, I was responsible for preparing a new filler and found that MXene was key to solving the problem. This project expanded my knowledge of materials science and enabled me to think more divergently in scientific research. As a team leader in a national-level innovation award project on the Preparation and Performance Control of Heteroatom-doped Nano-cellulose Mixed Matrix Membranes, I further developed my leadership and innovative skills. With great enthusiasm for Materials Science and Engineering, I pursued a master’s degree at the MSE Department of Northwestern University. The courses I took, particularly Analytical Electron Microscopy, expanded my theoretical knowledge and provided hands-on experience in scanning transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and electron energy-loss spectroscopy.Currently, I am working with Kenneth Shull\'s research group, focusing on the control of phase structures of block copolymer as Toughener in Epoxy-amine Matrix. My goal is to increase the fracture toughness of the epoxy/amine matrix by adding PMMA-PnBA block copolymer to the epoxy/amine matrix as tougheners. In this project, I have utilized my skills in testing the mechanical properties of materials and Python programming. Through my experiences, I have developed critical thinking skills and a keen eye for detail. I am now seeking a job opportunity on LinkedIn that aligns with my passion for materials science and engineering and allows me to apply my skills and knowledge to solve complex problems.
