Debate Mate is a charity that aims to promote educational equity and social mobility through after-school debate club across UK schools eligible for free meals- Deliver weekly British Parliamentary debate sessions to groups of secondary students from comprehensive schools, helping them develop confidence and public speaking skills- Effectively communicate complex ideas to secondary school students in an accessible and engaging manner- Prepare students for national debate competitions; and- Safeguard my students’ interest and identify any signs of abuse.

ABOUT CHENGXIANG SUN 孙成祥
I recently graduated from UCL in BA Philosophy and Economics with First Class Honours. I specialised in practical philosophy, including Ethics, Political Philosophy, Action Theory, and socio-legal studies. Particularly, I’m interested in normative and analytical jurisprudence.Out of my interest in legal and political philosophy, I am currently pursuing a master degree in Political Theory at the LSE with a focus on legal philosophy.Outside my academic life, I’m passionate about legal debating, advocacy, and analysis. I have been a debate mentor at Debate Mate for two years, helping students improve their debating skills. I also developed my written advocacy skills by working as an editor for European Student Think Tank and through rigorous philosophical training in my undergraduate study.The combination of my interests and strength destines me to a career as a barrister. I’m particularly interested in employment law and public law.With that being said, I am also open to all kinds of opportunities. It is my adamant belief that all experiences serve a meaningful purpose. I always learn to appreciate any opportunities and endeavour to get the most out of them.
