About Susan Chen

Growing up as a second-generation immigrant, a restaurant kid, and a first-generation college graduate, I have valued education as a powerful tool to enhance personal development. The impact that education had on my personal identity is immeasurable, thanks to the staff, faculty, and colleagues that left an imprint. Now, I want to be that staff member who enriches the next generation of students by engaging with nuance.My approach to student development is grounded on providing individualized support and encouragement to deepen their understanding of cultural nuance and personal identity. I am a fierce advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion, with the intention to empower students, especially those who are marginalized, to achieve their personal and professional goals. The skills developed while working at my parent\'s restaurant - communication, time management, and strong work ethic - equipped me to challenge the institutional norms and support students through a critical period in their education. In my free time, I enjoy going on walks, watching Parks and Recreation, cooking new cuisines, and solving escape rooms!
