Expert for next-generation battery research, in-vehicle battery state-of-health monitoring, strategies for battery 4R and other materials simulation and data-driven approaches. Responsibility • Founded the materials informatics and simulation team in Toyota Motor North America; • Technical leader of the materials informatics and simulation team; • Multiple projects management, short-term/long-term planning and team member development; • Support the in-house and Toyota Motor Corporation development of battery and fuel cells. Projects and achievements • Battery deployment and recycling: data-based battery 4R strategy On-line state-of-health estimation, future state-of-health forecast, develop protocols to align the battery deployment on EVs to US regulations; involve in in-vehicle battery data collection and cloud storage and analysis • All-solid-state battery: AI assisted battery design Optimize battery design parameters through machine learning for improved performance; bridge the lab-scale and production-scale difference; provide the guidance for battery design. • Next generation battery research: Materials discovery for all solid-state and post-Li-ion batteries Screen novel electrolyte and electrode materials, mechanistic understanding on battery charge and discharge, collaborate with experiment and analysis team for new battery development. • Fuel cell: FC catalyst discovery and cell-level structure design • Digitalized material research and data lab Create technologies to harvest, collect and organize materials research data, provide user-friendly tools for data utilization
