Developed and managed the statewide “Bridge Builder Competition” for Hawaiʻi high-school juniors and seniors, aligning with American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) STEM Outreach guidelines; guided student teams through CAD-based design, balsa-wood model construction, performance testing, and live presentation of finalist designs. Coordinated partnerships with Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) and STEMworks Hawai‘i to recruit teams, provide teacher training, distribute engineering kits, and stage monthly virtual support sessions for competition participants. Designed and implemented K-12 STEM outreach modules in collaboration with HDOT Maui District, introducing students in grades K-12 to transportation and civil-engineering careers via hands-on classroom activities covering bridge design, construction, roadway safety, and environmental considerations. Engaged multiple school levels (e.g, Maui High School, Kalama Intermediate, Kula Elementary) with no-cost curricula, educational kits, and field-ready modules to increase exposure to math, science, and engineering pathways. Led the Public Education & Outreach Program under the stormwater-management framework to raise awareness of how everyday activities influence storm-water quality and how pollutants enter Maui’s streams, rivers and ocean; crafted outreach messaging designed to shift community attitudes and behaviors toward pollution prevention. Delivered community-focused informational campaigns explaining storm-water pollutant sources, pathways to larger water bodies, and environmental impacts — helping align local behavior change with regulatory Minimum Control Measures (MCM) for storm-water management.
