ABOUT CHELLIE FERNANDEZ

Educator, Circle Keeper, Social Worker, Collective Impact Leader, and Consultant. Chellie saw firsthand the negative systemic impact punitive practices had on young people of color, especially Black people. This led her to get a Master’s in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago, with a concentration in School Leadership in Community Schools. Her research explored the school-to-prison pipeline and alternative school discipline strategies (micro to macro), such as circle keepers and trauma-informed schools. Now in San Antonio, Texas, Chellie, a nationally recognized collective impact leader, has led 40 + cross sector partners to align their impact to create more equitable systems for Latinx, Dreamers, and boys and young men of color. Under Chellie’s provision as a backbone leader, she led the turnaround of My Brother\'s Keeper San Antonio, helping it to achieve the top assessment score \"Sustaining Community\" of any community in the country by the Obama Foundation. Through this work Chellie has supported countless MBK cities in building and sculpting their strategic vision, governance structure, and communication tools to enhance their work on the ground by sharing best practices, conducting SWOT Analysis, and Road Mapping etc. Her latest significant achievement is the formation of MBK Texas, a statewide effort of Texas\' four major cities to ensure equitable outcomes for boys and young men of color through policy and resource shifts. More broadly, she has a serious gift for structural development and strategic design.
