As an Edward A. Bouchet Fellow, Charnice\'s research project focuses on the various ways the female body was regulated both physically by medications and socioculturally by institutions around the ancient Mediterranean. The Edward A. Bouchet Undergraduate Fellowship Program, named in honor of Yale College’s first African-American graduate and the first African-American in the United States to earn a Ph.D, was established to increase the number of students pursuing PhDs and subsequent careers in academia who come from minority backgrounds or have an interest in addressing racial disparities. The program is an effort to improve racial and ethnic relations in university environments and to provide role models for youth. The fellowship functions in conjunction with the Yale Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program.
