ABOUT CHARMAINE LANG
Dr. Charmaine Lang (she | they) is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Combahee Consulting & Coaching, LLC. A working class, Black lesbian from South Central Los Angeles, Charmaine brings two decades of experience in reproductive, economic, and racial justice movements. As an International Coaching Federation certified coach and full-spectrum doula, she supports clients in accessing pleasure and joy—both in the workplace and beyond. Her transformative work is deeply influenced by Vipassana Meditation, generative somatics, and bodywork. These somatic tools have been profoundly healing for Charmaine, who incorporates them into her coaching practice by inviting clients to connect with their bodies for guidance.Charmaine\'s activism and research mutually inform each other, grounded in Black Feminist Praxis and Possibilities. Her dissertation, “Learning to Take the Excess Baggage Off\": An Ethnographic Study of Black Women Activists\' Self-Care Practices, examined how contemporary Black women activists in Milwaukee, Wisconsin utilize community support and intentional pausing as care strategies. Using Black Feminist Thought and ethnographic methods, she built trust with heterosexual and LGBTQ+ Black women while centering self-care and health as integral components of social activism and liberation work.As a social justice leader and facilitator, Dr. Lang collaborates with executive teams to build healthy and safer work environments, namely through leading change management and DEI initiatives.
