ABOUT CHARLOTTE CAREY

I have a creative background including: first working as a freelance artist and film-maker, followed by co-running an interdisciplinary Internet consultancy, where I led on Internet Marketing; I have worked as a lecturer in new media, multi-media design and web design in learning organisations across the West Midlands. In 2003 I joined academia full-time working on a mixed portfolio of research, teaching and enterprise. I am currently Associate Professor of Digital Marketing (focussed on Content Marketing & Digital Enterprise/Entrepreneurship) & lead BCU Business School’s Entrepreneurship Research Cluster. I have expertise in the following areas: Digital Marketing, Creative Industries entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Education (EE) this expertise has been informed by a number of evaluations of EE programmes across the UK, several large-scale EU projects (most recently looking at EE for social enterprise and co-creation of EE teaching materials with East African HEIs). My personal research has a specific focus on contextualised EE (usually outside of business schools) and increasingly through the work of my PhD students. My own PhD and long-term research work has provided me an in depth knowledge of the Creative & Digital industries, a sensitive appreciation of business issues alongside a deep understanding of the parameters and barriers faced by individuals accessing these industries. Amongst other reviewing work I am Co-chair of the Creative Industries Entrepreneurship conference track and SIG (special interest group) for the ISBE (Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship) conference.
