ABOUT CHARLOTTE BOWLES-LEWIS

Inspire Heritage Services Ltd was established in June 2018 and has 20 years of experience in the conservation sector and is a member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC). Inspire Heritage Services Ltd is based in Stroud and offers a range of services to support the reuse and conservation of historic buildings and developments in their settings, and advise on new development in conservation areas. I provide advice to local authorities in a conservation capacity and I am currently assisting in the delivery of a heritage strategy for Birmingham City Council. Through my consultancy role, I have recently been appointed as a Design Council Expert for the built environment and attend design reviews providing advice as a panel member. The company is registered on the IHBC Historic Environment Service Providers’ Recognition scheme. I previously worked as Principal Conservation Officer at Gloucester City Council for over 13 years. Gloucester has 14 conservation areas and 700 designated assets. The City has a diverse history with buildings and monuments ranging from the roman period to present day. I am highly organised and can multitask, managing a number of different projects at anyone time. Gloucester is changing significantly at the moment with a number of major regeneration sites underway including Bakers Quay, Kings Quarter, The Prison and The Barbican site. I have also provided conservation advice for a number of large scale national lottery funded schemes such as Project Pilgrim, Llanthony Priory and Discover DeCrypt and a £1.2 million Townscape Heritage Initiative scheme on Southgate Street. The heritage team was responsible for delivering and High Street Heritage Action Zone scheme in Westgate Street called Cathedral Quarter. I was involved in the management of a conservation area review, article 4 and advising on works to The Fleece and numerous designated heritage assets. I also advised on policy development including the City Plans and Joint Core Strategies, developed a heritage strategy for the City working with consultants and criteria for the establishment of a local list, and updated the Shopfront, Signage, and shutter guidance SPD. My role was unsupervised and I managed my own work schedule and budgets. I was responsible for the line management of staff both temporary and permanent contracts. I am a full member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC), a member of the South West Committee and advise the Gloucestershire Diocese.
