An excellent educator is selfless, giving to others without concern for applaud or accolade. Educators are not paid based on their effectiveness in the classroom or on the impact on a student’s life. Excellent educators are intrinsically motivated, motivated by a passion for their discipline. Excellent educators are skilled in presentation, allowing theory and application to be absorbed rather than learned. Excellent educators relate to their students, connecting themselves to their students and therefore changing the future of the student and society. Educators at the collegiate level have the ability and responsibility to empower tomorrow’s teachers, civic leaders, coaches, service men and women, parents and CEOs. The opportunity to teach is an honor, not a job, and when approached from this perspective life- long learning is achieved at an exceptional level. Service has been a part of my childhood, adolescence, and adult years. I was raised in a home in which service was a way of life, so it comes naturally to me. My goal is to continue my family legacy of providing service to others, since it is an important value to me and to increase my sphere of influence beyond my family and include my friends, students and community. My commitment to service is very important to my personal, professional, and educational self and grows out of a long and deeply held desire to help others.
