ABOUT CHARLOTTE ADAMS

I was thrilled to be appointed as the first CEO of the National Geothermal Centre in 2024, following over 20 years of dedicated work in the geothermal field across academia, public, and private sectors. My geothermal research has been featured on Country File, The One Show, ITV Tonight, and Channel 4 News. I am honoured to have received awards from the Geological Society and The Energy Institute. At the National Geothermal Centre, my mission is to accelerate the growth of all forms of geothermal energy in the UK through collaboration and innovation, aiming to deliver low-carbon heat and power by working closely with sector stakeholders. My passion for geothermal energy was ignited during my PhD at Newcastle University, where I became fascinated by the potential to recover heat from disused mining infrastructure. Twenty years later whilst working at the Mining Remediation Authority, I achieved my dream by contributing to the design and delivery of the UK\'s largest geothermal heat scheme, operated by Gateshead Energy Company, which now provides up to 6MW of heat to the town.As a trained hydrogeologist, my interests extend beyond geothermal energy to include water resource assessment and mine water treatment. I have gained both academic and industrial experience through my work at Newcastle and Durham Universities, as well as in the renewable energy industry.Interests: geothermal energy, heat decarbonisation, energy security, clean energy, smart energy systems, renewable energy, hydrogeology, mining, mine water, earth sciences, engineering
