After over 7 years of advocacy with the FPA in Tallahassee, he is pleased to see that Florida now requires all public high school students graduating in 2027 and beyond to pass a one-semester personal financial literacy course. Charlie has three decades of leadership within his church, community, and profession. Charlie and his wife Lisa have been joyfully married for 36 years and take pride in their three adult children and three cherished grandchildren.

ABOUT CHARLIE FITZGERALD
My journey into the financial planning profession began nearly four decades ago, thanks to my father, a physician. I had just graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Finance when he invited me to sit in a meeting with the financial planning firm he had hired. That experience lit a spark—it was clear to me that this was the path I wanted to pursue.Much like my father who cared deeply for his patients, I saw financial planning as a way to provide the same kind of personal, professional care—this time, through the lens of personal finance. It took nearly twelve years to fully realize that vision.In 1992, after years of study while working full-time in financial management at AT & T, I earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certification. Four years later, I took the leap—leaving AT & T after 13 years to build a financial planning practice from scratch. With no salary and no clients, I put in the work. Two years later, the practice was firmly established. Now, nearly 30 years later, I still find great satisfaction in helping clients achieve peace of mind, quality of life, and a legacy.From the beginning, I’ve believed in giving back to the communities where I live, work, and worship. I’ve been an active member and volunteer in the Financial Planning Association for over 25 years, serving in both local and statewide leadership roles.In 2015, I was honored to serve a four-year term on the national Board of Directors for the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. I’ve also served since its inception on the CFP Board’s Center for Financial Planning Development Committee, supporting initiatives that (1) expand diversity in the profession,(2) grow the pipeline of future planners, and (3) strengthen academic research in our field.Most recently, I’ve been proud to support the University of Florida’s Wealth Management Program in the Warrington College of Business. The program is a CFP Board Registered Program. In less than three years, the program has already become one of the most sought-after minors in the business college.
