Semiconductor Tool Installations are not something that you can really research on the internet. It is a skill and art all by itself. There are Structural, Mechanical, Piping,Electrical trades and vendors all competing for prime real estate in the Sub fab and under the RMF in the Fab. It is imperative that proper guidelines are followed from the beginning so as to minimize rework and costs associated with it. Site specifications, routing, space management and sometimes plain old common sense works wonders. I pride myself as a seasoned Quality Assurance guy in the Semiconductor Tool Install world. I have been in the trenches and performed thousands of helium leak, particle, trace gas and pressure tests. I know exactly how important and critical it is for the Piping contractor to \"build clean\" so as to ensure faster testing turn around times. The faster the testing times, the lower the cost for the client. Do you see where I am going with this? Now these toolsets come in many flavors known as modules. There are Thin Films, Etch, Cleans, Diffusion, and Litho to name a few. The tools cost millions and a ramp costs billions. The TIC, or tool install cost, is an ever so important number to upper level management. It is critical to build it correctly the first time. Change orders kill the TIC. This is not as chaotic and crazy as it seems. It occurs with a solid team made up of professionals with various skillsets. However, all team members have certain roles and responsibilities coupled with accountability. This is where I step in.
