Founded in 1982, TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND,(TITAS), continues to fulfill its mission by offering tens of thousands of North Texans opportunities to experience the world’s finest performing artists with over 525 performances (more than 155 Dallas debuts) by the most intriguing artists from over 38 countries. Throughout its 35-year history of artistic excellence, TITAS has been a powerful advocate for the arts, especially dance. Through audience engagement, TITAS cultivates arts appreciation in our North Texas communities while providing essential inspiration and access for local artists. In 1994, TITAS introduced the CROSSROADS program to maximize artist/community contact through education and engagement activities including master classes, workshops, pre- and post-show discussions, student performances, lec/dems, internships, and outdoor dance classes. In 2001, Charles Santos, executive director/artistic director, began a new era of skillfully curated seasons and expanded community engagement programs. In 2011, TITAS extended its mission to include the commissioning of new works and cultural collaborations. In 2015, became a dance only presenter and, in collaboration with four distinguished national presenters including The Kennedy Center and The Joyce Theater, TITAS Presents co-commissioned two world premieres by Twyla Tharp and hosted the launch of the company’s 50th Anniversary tour in Dallas. With 15 TITAS-commissioned works still touring internationally, TITAS attracts important national and international attention that continues to raise the visibility of TITAS and Dallas as a city committed to the arts. Cultural collaborations like TITAS’ A Gathering, a benefit for local AIDS service organizations that involve over 200 North Texas artists, strengthen the community through the arts and collaborative work. TITAS continues to be a vital leader in the North Texas cultural landscape. TITAS’ rigorous and recently completed strategic plan begins implementation mid-2018.
