Beam has over 30 years of experience as a civil engineer (civil, structural, and environmental) including road and bridge design, geotechnical engineering, foundation analysis and design, hydraulics and hydrology, and wetlands assessments and delineation. He has been responsible for facility condition inspections, failure analyses, damage assessments, engineering investigations of all types of structures, and investigation of structural damage resulting from both wind and flood from numerous hurricanes and windstorms throughout the South and Southeast. His experience includes flood studies and assessments, property location and construction with regards to Special Flood Hazard Areas, watershed hydrology and storm drainage design and assessment, foundation analysis and design, and foundation distress investigations. Mr. Beam has provided engineering support services to many major insurance and adjusting companies and law firms throughout the southeast Atlantic region. This effort is related to structural failures and deficiencies, flood damages and hazards, faulty construction, code violations, and expert witness testimony. Mr. Beam has provided expert witness testimony and reporting related to water availability in a criminal negligence case and drainage issues resulting from land development. Mr. Beam has performed many asbestos inspections, assessments, and abatement estimates. He has been employed as an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics and Physical Science at Southern Wesleyan University, an Adjunct Instructor of Mathematics at Midlands Technical College, an Adjunct Instructor of Environmental Science at Virginia College, and an Adjunct Instructor of Mathematics at Southeastern Institute. He has managed several transportation projects for the Richland County Penny Transportation Program including greenways, a neighborhood improvement plan, and dirt road to pave program. He was currently involved in land development and foundation design for Southeastern Real Estate Companies (Southeastern Land Management and Surveying, LLC) in Columbia, SC and geotechnical investigations / asbestos inspections for Geo-Systems Design & Testing, Inc. based in West Columbia, SC. He is a Senior Hydrologist (part-time) with Seres Engineering & Services, LLC working on geotechnical, environmental, and hydrology aspects of federal government contracts. He is currently the Program Chair of CEG at CPCC in Charlotte, NC.
