I am a summer research intern, for Summers 2024 and 2025, in the Ronald O. Perelman Center for Emergency Services at NYU Langone Health. My research focuses on EMS and pre-hospital emergency medical care. I am part of a team that includes another undergraduate intern, the EMS QA/QI coordinator, and the NYU EMS medical oversight physicians. We are currently working on publishing research related to RMAs - refusals of medical assistance - by NYU Langone EMS providers. We are also working on projects to improve patient care in the pre-hospital setting and more closely align it with the emergency department. In my role, I also assist the QA/QI coordinator in providing substantive comments and feedback to NYU EMS providers to improve the quality of patient care delivered in the field.

ABOUT CHARLES LAIFER
I am an undergraduate student at Columbia University studying Jewish History and Chemistry on the Pre-Health Track. I am a volunteer EMT, serving in multiple clinical roles, and am involved in EMS Quality Assurance and Improvement, among other scholarly interests. I am passionate about delivering excellent pre-hospital care and bettering EMS systems, which inspired me to pursue a career in medicine. I am also interested in medical education, having served as an assistant instructor for two years in an EMT course. I enjoy creating continuing medical education classes for EMS professionals and serving as a field mentor and instructor for new EMTs.
