I practice in the Workers’ Compensation Defense Group, where I have defended hundreds of claims through all phases of the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation process. I have been named among the Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch 2021 in the fields of Workers’ Compensation Defense and Construction law. I also maintain an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell, which is a peer review rating system. I have experience defending claims involving injuries by accident, specific traumatic incidents, occupational diseases, and deaths. I have written and lectured on death claims in the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation system. In addition to my workers’ compensation practice, I also maintain a construction lien and commercial collections practice where I assist creditors in contractual disputes.In my workers’ compensation practice I maintain frequent communication with my clients throughout the claims process. I have the opportunity to:• Craft Applications, Motions, and Responses thereto, involving both medical and indemnity compensation issues.• Prepare exposure evaluations to assess risk and claim value, both in terms of financial incentives for the opposing party, and potential costs for my clients.• Negotiate settlements at Mediated Settlement Conferences and in other alternative dispute resolution forums.• Litigate claims in in administrative settings, in full evidentiary Hearings before Deputy Commissioners, and before panels of Full Commissioners.• Conduct depositions of both lay and expert witnesses.• Help my clients maintain workers’ compensation liens in cases involving third party liability actions.
