ABOUT CHRISTOPHER POLLARD

I am an employed barrister and legal director at Edwin Coe LLP. I specialise in intellectual property and commercial law matters (contentious and non-contentious). I also sit on the board of a community bank as a non-exec director, assisting with its governance. In my role as a barrister, I assist clients on both contentious and non-contentious matters.I work with clients across a variety of sectors including aerospace, biopharma, software, medtech, fintech, telecoms and media. Clients involve multi-nationals, SMEs, universities, their spin-out companies and other start-ups.I advise and negotiate on transactions, including licensing arrangements and exploitation, procurement and assignment, collaborative research and funding, data protection and GDPR compliance, and matters involving standard-essential patents or FRAND licences.Previous contentious matters include: patent disputes, involving a European patent dispute regarding American children’s toys designer, UK patent infringement within the aviation industry, and indemnity enforcement regarding infringement of third party patent rights; trade mark disputes, involving enforcement or defence of trade mark rights or passing off; and copyright disputes such as unauthorised use, amendment and authorship of a client’s research outputs, unlicensed sale of unpublished academic papers, unlicensed use of photographs, and counterfeits.I previously worked: in a provincial firm, FSP LLP, as a partner and Head of IP; a boutique IP specialist firm, Anderson Law LLP, for nearly a decade; and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP\'s Dispute Resolution department. My undergraduate degree was in Environmental Science at Nottingham University. I wrote papers on: the effects of bovine spongiform encephalopathy prions and the hazard they pose to the environment; the effect of the modern day climate on polar bear populations; environmental risk assessments of wetlands (using environmental modelling software to predict floods); the vulnerability of permafrost and the implications for the global cycle (following research personally conducted in the Arctic Circle); and a dissertation on the comparison of palaeoatmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations of the mid-Jurassic period to those of 2009 through the stomatal responses of Ginkgo leaves.
