ABOUT CHARLES BARBER
Charles “Chip” Barber is Director for Natural Resources Governance & Policy at the World Resources Institute (WRI) and also serves as the Institute\'s Senior Biodiversity Advisor. Prior to joining WRI in 2014, Chip was Forest Chief at the U.S. Department of State from 20••••14, where he led U.S. diplomacy on numerous aspects of bilateral and multilateral forest policy. Before joining the State Department, he served from 20••••09 at USAID, where he represented the agency in numerous multilateral processes. While at USAID, he also co-designed the $40 million Coral Triangle support program, and USAID’s strategies for climate change in the Asia-Pacific and for natural resources in Indonesia.From 20••••04, Chip worked as a consultant with a wide variety of organizations including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UN University, NRDC, IUCN, IFC, UNDP, UNEP, and The Nature Conservancy. He previously worked for WRI 19••••01 on forest, biodiversity and marine programs, based in the Philippines 19••••01. Chip received his Ph.D.(in Jurisprudence and Social Policy), J.D, and M.A.(in Asian Studies) from the University of California at Berkeley. His Ph.D. dissertation focused on the politics of community forestry on Java during the Suharto era in Indonesia.
