ABOUT CHARLES BRETON
Passionate about music, I first got interested in design and crafts through musical instruments, record covers as well as scenography and music videos. Through the music media, I realized the importance of coherence between the different arts. In 2015, right after my baccalaureate, I joined Strate, a school of design in Paris, where I had the opportunity to learn several artistic expressions, such as drawing, painting, CAD and explore some others such movie realization and photography. Studying in the product design department, I always tried my best to think to the whole life of a product: how and by whom would it be made and recycled, what would then be the spatial environnement of this product, what atmosphere would it helps to convey and what material would emphasize this feeling, how would in be best showcased in a exhibit space, a store or an advertisement. During my years of studies at Strate, I researched about Gesamtkünstwerk, “total art” in English, as the multiple translations of an idea by different people and media. These researches led me to movements such as Bauhaus and Arts & Crafts, which I take a lot of inspiration from in my projects. During my 5th year I wrote a thesis about “sacrality”, exploring the reminiscent manifestations of sacrality in western society, more specifically in medias. Sacrality whether it is religious or not, is extremely interesting in my opinion to reveal the deepest character and sense of perception of a human being or a community. I constantly attach myself to discover how it is represented in cultures and study the different kinds of aesthetics, sensibilities and uses it conveys. Design and creative direction then came to me as the perfect position to express ideas on a global scale, and assure a coherence and resonance between arts.
