ABOUT CHARLENE D. SLAUGHTER

Charlene D. Slaughter serves as Director of Communications for Experience Columbia SC, a role she has held since February 2018. She is a key member of the organization’s communications and marketing team, leading initiatives that support ECSC’s media relations and public outreach goals. She also oversees production of the organization’s annual Insider’s Guide and works year-round to educate potential visitors about the Columbia region through earned media and strategic public relations campaigns.Prior to joining Experience Columbia SC, Slaughter built an extensive career in higher education and journalism. She served as Marketing and Communications Manager for Academic Programs at the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business and as Assistant Vice President for Communications and Marketing at Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. Earlier in her career, she spent more than a decade as a print journalist, working in roles such as sports writer, news writer, city editor, sports editor, and special assignments reporter. During her tenure at The Times and Democrat in Orangeburg, she earned six South Carolina Press Association awards, including first-place honors for enterprise reporting and profile feature writing.Slaughter is a graduate of Winthrop University with a degree in mass communication and holds a Master of Professional Studies in Strategic Public Relations from The George Washington University. A native of St. Matthews, S.C, she earned her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) in July 2021
