ABOUT CHARIS USTER
I am a filmmaker, currently living and working between Barcelona and Berlin. After graduating with a BA in Political Science from the University of Potsdam, Germany I spent some time founding a film festival while figuring out what to do next, resulting in finding the intersection of academics and the arts in the medium of pictures. I started working for Erika Lust Films in Barcelona which further manifested my interest in filmmaking and topics around sex & sexuality. In January 2021, I graduated from Escuela Superior de Cine y Audiovisuales de Catalunya (ESCAC) with a MA in filmmaking. I am now working as a freelance director and creative strategist. My work on Shortfilm Sleeping Beauty by director Charlie Benedetti got featured in Vanity Fair Italy and on ZDF Germany and I was recently named as a promising young filmmaker in Wired Italia. My work can be described as a celebration of millennial culture, subverting genres mostly through the female and queer gaze. It is sometimes comedic, sometimes heartbreaking and often terrifying.
