About Charell Valencia
My entire journey into computer science has been, if nothing else, fearless and innovative. I taught myself to code the summer of 2012 in order to jump straight into the Advanced Placement Computer Science course the following year. Once I began studying computer science I found it fascinating and invigorating. The fall of 2012, I applied for the Aspirations in Computing award offered by NCWIT and was chosen as one of 35 national winners. Since winning I have been a STEM(Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) advocate on Capitol Hill eating dinner with Congress, a White House delegate for the Champions of Change, worked for Bank of America’s Global Information Security Team, spoke on both Microsoft and an AOL panels and done so much more. I have recently obtained a Information Science B.S at the University of Maryland, College Park while in the F.I.R.E (First-Year Innovation through Research and Experience) program at the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), a Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence and a minor in Entrepreneurship in Technology. I graduated with a B.S. in Information Science in May 2018, a unique combination of technology, data and psychology. I have been coding since I was 16 and I enjoy working closely with people to solve challenging technology problems. In the past I have succeeded on a team while working on UX-Design challenges for UMCP, a front-end remodel for Delta Resources, information security innovations with BoA, research for Homeland, UI Development with AOL, etc. For the past two years I have been growing my cloud architecture skills with a concentration in AWS and Azure.
