ABOUT CHANDRA SEKHAR GOLI

As a Research Engineer with a background in motor controls, electric machine design, and real-time system validation, I specialize in developing and validating traction motor control strategies for advanced Electric Drive Units (EDUs) used in automotive for electrified mobility applications. Control Algorithm Development & ValidationValidated critical control features for 3-level traction inverters, including MTPA, MTPV–field weakening, variable switching frequency, SVPWM for 2-level, and double carrier PWM for 3-level inverters, GDPWM, seamless PWM transitions between 3L and 2L, ramped PWM strategies for fault scenarios. etc. Implemented generic templates for advanced functions such as dead-time compensation, PWM clamping, and min/max pulse consistency from the output of EDU controllers ensuring smooth torque delivery. HiL Development & CommissioningCommissioned Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) setups for high-performance EDU controllers received from OEMs, using high-fidelity plant models of traction motors. Designed robust interfaces between HiL platforms and hardware components—integrating signals from resolvers, gate drivers, current and HVDC sensors, and thermal sensors to enable comprehensive real-time control validation. Electric Machine Modeling & Real-Time SimulationWorked extensively on translating Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models of electric machines into real-time models compatible with respective simulation platforms. Electric machines modeled include: Axial AFPM-YASA, IPM, SPM, DSPM, and Induction Machine.🤝 Collaboration with OEMs: Collaborated with Germany-based OEMs Schaeffler and Silver Atena to ensure delivery of Electric Drive Units (EDUs) that met expected performance and quality standards ensuring seamless motor control performance validation. Recipient of the IAS IACC First Prize Paper Award at the IAS Annual Meeting 2022, Nashville, USA, for a research contribution on the comparative analysis of current control strategies.🧪 Led a U.S. Department of Energy (DoE)-funded research project at UNC Charlotte, developing a prototype double salient PM machine with modular windings and a 300 kW SiC-based traction inverter.Implemented vector current control to the drive system.
