About Chandler Monk
I specialize in the development of molecular diagnostic tools that bring precision and accessibility to rapid point-of-care testing. My prior background is in CRISPR-based diagnostics with a focus in herpesviruses and newborn screening.I completed my doctoral training in the Bioinnovation PhD program at Tulane University, an interdisciplinary program integrating biomedical engineering and business. While at Tulane, I explored intellectual property strategy through IP Law at the Law School and an internship with the Technology Transfer Office, where I evaluated early-stage technologies and supported commercialization efforts. I also interned at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health- FDA, where I gained firsthand insight into regulatory science and translational research pathways in evaluating metal implants.My previous research includes investigating the metabolic demands of cytomegalovirus and SARS-CoV-2 during my master’s in microbiology, and developing bacteriophage-based approaches to treat waterborne pathogens during my undergraduate years. These experiences have shaped a deep commitment to taking discoveries from the lab to application.I also bring experience in team leadership as a former Division I soccer student-athlete and two-year team captain, with a strong track record in mentoring, community engagement, and project coordination.Outside of science, I love flipping furniture, playing soccer, and New Orleans live music.
