ABOUT CHAMDINI PANNIPITIYA

I founded Café Brainwaves to explore a central question: how can education better support sustainable transitions into adulthood for young people with SEND? My work focuses on Preparing for Adulthood (PfA), long-term developmental planning, and the coherence between young people’s development, professional practice, and the wider systems that shape transition pathways. I am particularly interested in strengthening conceptual clarity around how these elements interact to support meaningful participation, independence, and stability in adult life. Originally trained as a medical doctor in Sri Lanka, I now work in special educational needs and disability (SEND) education in the UK. My perspective brings together clinical understanding, frontline educational experience, and growing engagement with SEND policy, transition planning, and adult services. Through Café Brainwaves, I explore how development, practice, and statutory systems can be brought into greater structural coherence to improve long-term outcomes for young people with SEND. My work is grounded in inclusive, strengths-based principles, with a focus on dignity, language, and developmental thinking across the lifespan.
