ABOUT CHAFIQ HAMDOUCHI
I am a scientific leader, entrepreneur, and mentor with three decades of experience driving innovation in drug discovery and development. My expertise focuses primarily on oncology, alongside significant experience in diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases, with a proven track record of advancing small molecules from target identification to clinical proof of concept—and beyond.I currently serve as Co-Director of the Cancer Drug Discovery and Development Accelerator (CD3A) at the Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and as Senior Research Professor at the IU School of Medicine. At CD3A, I lead a distinctive academic-industry hybrid platform embedding pharmaceutical-grade drug development capabilities within an academic setting. This innovative model accelerates oncology assets through IND-enabling studies and toward clinical trials, licensing, and startup formation.CD3A was humbly honored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a major strength and an impressive platform during the successful renewal of IU’s Cancer Center Support Grant—a recognition that reflects our collaborative team’s commitment and innovation. In parallel, I’ve co-led several NIH- and foundation-funded initiatives, including the first NIH/NCI SBIR Phase II award granted to Indiana University.Previously, I spent over 24 years at Eli Lilly and Company, leading global, cross-functional discovery teams and contributing to the advancement of several clinical candidates, including multiple molecules currently in clinical trials. A particularly rewarding achievements was establishing and directing Lilly’s first R&D outsourcing team in Asia, pioneering a model of global collaboration that delivered four clinical-stage candidates.Alongside research and leadership, I am deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of translational scientists. I’ve advised over 100 fellows and developed educational content bridging science, business, regulatory frameworks, and innovation to prepare scientists for successful careers across academia, biotech, and pharma. • Therapeutic Areas: Oncology | Diabetes | Neurodegenerative Diseases • Expertise: Medicinal Chemistry | Translational Science | Strategic Partnerships | IND/Clinical Strategy • Global Collaboration: USA | Europe | Asia • Mentorship: Training scientists for leadership roles in drug discovery and development
